Here’s Why It’s Okay To Not Have New Year’s Resolutions

I know it’s a tradition to set goals for the new year, I know this.

But let’s think for a moment: how many of your 2020 goals were you able to achieve? Did you anticipate a pandemic? Of course not, I know I didn’t.

I must admit that there were some things on my 2020 new year’s resolutions list that I was able to achieve, but there were more that I did not, and I’m satisfied with that. When I lost my job, which by the way, included benefits such as health, dental and even FREE therapy, my focus at that point was to literally just survive the year. When I caught COVID, I was scared because of no insurance, but I didn’t let it stop me from waking up every day and putting myself first.

I think that’s what 2020 taught us, to put ourselves first and trust in God. Unfortunately, creating high goals (become a millionaire, find a soul mate, lose 50 pounds, move into the dream house) can cause anxiety, especially when things happen in life that are out of your control.

Let’s pause for a moment, did you see the movie Soul? If you have not, please do yourself a favor and watch it and really soak in the message behind the movie. Your life could be snatched away at any given moment, so what are you doing to prepare for it? Are you going to be happy and living your purpose or are you going to be miserable fulfilling someone else’s purpose?

I strive to live every day in my purpose, but within God’s will.

Think about it, let’s say you create a list of 10 goals that are not even in God’s plan for you? You could be wasting an entire year trying to be someone you’re created to be.

This year Instead of writing resolution, I want you to focus on applying pressure to your purpose. That involves fasting, praying, engaging in self-care, finding new hobbies, making connections with the right people who can give you access to fulfilling your purpose, and showing gratitude for what you have.

Instead of writing goals this year, I encourage you to set a clear intention. Intend to live every day like it’s your last, intend to focus on who and what matters to you, enhance your skills and intend to speak life over your day.

Meanwhile, it’s a new year, focus on some self-care. I created this Self Care essential list on amazon with some products I’m using to put myself first this year, I’m sure you will find something you love.

With that being said, happy new year!
