The Music You Listen To Will Manifest Things In Your Life
Happy Sunday! How was your weekend? Did you stick to your weekend plans and commitments? I had a very busy weekend and you know how Atlanta is, there is always something to do!
I listen to Les Brown nearly everyday, and if you don’t know who he is, you need to re-evaluate your life, like seriously! He is a well known motivational speaker and is very influential with his words. I aspire to be like him one day, but I want to motivate women to have healthy businesses and healthy relationships. This week, he mentioned something that I thought I should include in this blog. He said, “all that we are, is the result of what we think, as a man thinketh, he is”, and that stuck with me.
All that we are, and how we live, is a direct result of what we think and believe. What we think is influenced by what we see and hear, and for the purpose of this blog, much of what some people hear is from music, which impacts their life. You can call me crazy all you want, but I truly believe that the music you listen to can manifest things in your life without you even realizing it.
For example, whenever I had to go through a breakup, or a bad time with my relationships, in the past my #1 song to refer to was “Khia-Don’t Trust No Ni**a” and for years, I had trust issues. I didn’t believe what they said, and they didn’t believe what I said. I believed that all men were dogs because that’s what they do, and for a while, I attracted men that were dogs. Can you imagine Michelle Obama bumping to that song when her and Obama got in an argument? Negative, because she knows better.
You can tell a lot about a person by the music they listen to. People listen to certain songs because they can relate to the lyrics, or they want the lyrics to be their way of life. People who want to make a lot of money, listen to music about making money, people who smoke marijuana like to listen to music about marijuana, people who like sex, listen to music about sex, people who like music about empowerment and self love, listen to music about empowerment and self love, and everything they listen to, has an impact on their life.
Take a moment to look through your playlist, and think about why you like the music that you listen to, and if it has some type of influence on you. I know music is very influential, it makes people dance, makes them cry, laugh, get lit, puts them in the mood, makes them mad, etc., so this is why it is very important to be mindful of what you listen to and pour into your mind.
I listen to music occasionally. When I start my morning, it’s usually with a gospel song and then i’ll listen to Lauryn Hill, HER, Chance The Rapper, Davido (I love his music by the way), Beyonce, India Arie, Maxwell, and others. Their music always puts me in a good mood, and it gives me good energy. Listening to their music, I manifest good energy, and positive thoughts on life, myself and others. For instance, when I cut my hair, I was jamming to India Arie “I Am Not My Hair” and it manifested the energy that I don’t need my hair to feel beautiful, because I already am without it.
SN: No offense to Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and City Girls fans, but I no longer listen to their music. It’s others who I don’t listen to, but they are the most popular right now. I like them, but their music can be degrading sometimes, and the opposite of women empowerment. Like in Cardi B’s latest song, “Press” the lyrics say “Done with the talkin', I'm open to violence, ask anybody, they know I'm about it. Hashtag whip that hoe a**” is really about violence towards other women and I don’t support it.
Also, in the City Girls “Act Up” song, the lyrics say “Drop a couple racks, watch this a** get bigger
Drinkin' on liquor, and I'm lookin' at your n*gga
If his money right, he can eat it like a Snicker
I ain't got time for you fake a** hoes
Talkin' all loud in them fake a** clothes
Fake a** shoes match that fake a** gold” and “Your baby daddy fckin me and suckin' me
He don't answer you, b*tch, that's because of me.”
Basically what they are saying, is that it’s okay to look at someone else’s man, talk trash about their clothes and jewelry, and have sex with someone else’s child’s father. It’s like they are proud to be the side chick, but I guess that shouldn’t be too hard to notice, since one of their hit songs is “I’ll Take Your Man”. I truly believe women become side chicks because someone made it acceptable, and I think the City Girls are helping them find their motivation in this behavior. I personally do not want to be a side chick, and I don’t want my future man to have a side chick, so I choose to not manifest that by not listening to their music anymore.
When I am not listening to music, I am listening to podcasts. Podcasts give me guidance. It’s like when you go through a break up, listening to Jasmine Sullivan’s breakup music, it’s like a drug. It gets you high, and in your feelings, and when you come down from that high, it does not solve the emotions you go through. But when you listen to a podcast, it gives you guidance on how you need to move forward. Essentially, music helps you move on, but podcasts help you move forward. Podcasts are tools that can help you become who you need to be, living a productive life, not who you are already, someone who is stuck in their emotions.
I think everyone should listen to podcasts. They educate you on how to be a better person, and how to maintain that. I listen to podcasts at least 75% of the time. When I’m driving, I prefer to listen to them, and it makes me more focused. People say that reading is fundamental because it expands the mind and develops imagination, and I feel as though, listening to podcasts is fundamental as well. You expand how you think and how you perceive things, and have a better outlook on life.
